First of all, thank you for choosing Budget Driving School! We want you to know that we take our job seriously, we understand that the instruction your child gets will help them be a safer, more courteous driver. For this reason, we only provide one-on-one instruction and the lessons are spread out so that we can monitor their progress.

Please make sure to read the Parent-Teen Handbook available to all parents at your local DMV office.

You are about to enroll in a Behind-the-Wheel (BTW) Driver Training session. Three BTW sessions will be required in all at a cost of $85.00 each.

Please read all of the following information:

The first step for your child is going to DMV to take the written test, the student must have a valid permit before we can give instruction.

After your student has received his/her permit, be sure to read the 2nd page… “Permit is not valid until applicant completes the first day of the Behind-the-Wheel training or reaches age 17½.”

For this reason, it is very important that you call us as soon as your child receives his/her permit. The permit is valid for an entire year and must be held for a minimum of six (6) months.

Students can be eligible to receive their license after 6 months if…

• They have completed three (3) – two-hour drive sessions with a licensed driving instructor from our school. These sessions will be spread out over the six-month period, with each hour consisting of 50 minutes.

• They have had 50 hours of practice (10 of those hours at night) with someone 25 years or older with a valid CA driver’s license. We cannot over-emphasize this point: We give the instruction…you provide the practice! The more you drive with your child, the better and safer driver he/she will become. By the 3rd BTW session, we will be able to tell if the student has had the practice necessary to not only pass the DMV test, but to be a responsible driver afterwards.

All students must keep their scheduled appointments. Instructors are not expected to put in overtime or wait for students. All drives are made at a time when instructors are available. If it is necessary to cancel or reschedule, student must give at least 24-hour notice. Last minute cancellations, less than 24hrs., will be charged $30.00. If it happens a second time, student will be charged for a full drive. Please remember, due to the fact that we have a high volume of students, any cancellation may result in a 2-4 week wait before we can reschedule your child again. If for some reason there is a cancellation by the instructor, the student will be a priority and rescheduled with another instructor as soon as possible.

Students must show up for the drive prepared, with permit and payment if owed.

All 3rd time drivers are to be paid in cash, Cashier’s Check, or Money Order. If paid by check, the certificate of completion will be held until the end of the month when all checks have cleared.
